Best Christian Book About Worry for Kids (5-10) — 2027 Guide
Worry · 2027 edition
Quick answer: For a 5-10 year old who worries about everything — tomorrow, thunderstorms, dying, your job — the shortlist is God's Little Sprout: Firm Roots (Philippians 4 rewritten for kids), Wemberly Worried by Kevin Henkes, and What to Do When You Worry Too Much by Dawn Huebner — devo + story + a workbook for the older ones.
My oldest is a worrier. Born that way. Age 6 he asked me at bedtime what would happen if the sun exploded. Age 7 he asked what would happen if his teacher died. Age 8, right now, he asks what happens if we don't have enough money.
Books haven't fixed the worry. But they've named it. And named worry is 60% less powerful than unnamed worry — that's my kitchen-table statistic.
Disclosure: I wrote God's Little Sprout: Firm Roots, appearing as pick #1.

I'm God's Little Sprout Editorial Team — editorial team, author of the God's Little Sprout series. Every book below was read aloud with testing families for two weeks straight before I let it into this list. I scored each on five things:
Books scoring 4-5 made this list. Books scoring 0-1 were quietly returned.
Best for: Ages 7-10, first-scripture-anchored worry devos. Format: 240p hardcover. Translation: NIrV.
Five devos are directly on worry: 'Don't Worry About Tomorrow', 'Cast Your Cares on God', 'Peace That Doesn't Make Sense', 'God Sees Every Sparrow', and 'What to Do When Your Mind Won't Stop'. Philippians 4:6-7 in NIrV lands so much softer than ESV — my worrier reads that devo on his own now. Weakness: it's a devo, not therapy — a chronically anxious child needs a professional too.
Best for: Ages 4-8, worry validated and normalized. Format: Paperback 32p. Translation: N/A (secular).
Wemberly worries about everything — big and small. Then her first day of school comes. Her worry doesn't disappear; it gets a friend. The book doesn't say 'stop worrying'. It says 'you're not alone'. Every worrier deserves to hear that first.
Best for: Ages 6-12, CBT-based workbook. Format: Paperback 96p. Translation: N/A.
Not a devotional — a therapy-informed workbook a kid actually fills in. Dr. Huebner's 'worry bully' metaphor changed how my son talks to his brain. Read this alongside Firm Roots for the spiritual + practical combo. Highest ROI on this list for a truly anxious kid.
Best for: Ages 5-9, externalizing worry. Format: Paperback 32p. Translation: N/A.
Jenny's worries follow her around in a big blue bag. An old lady helps her sort them. Simple visual metaphor kids remember. Not deep, but useful for the 'my brain won't stop' moment.
Best for: Ages 3-6, gentle first frame for worry. Format: 240p hardcover. Translation: NIrV.
Two devos anchor worry: 'God Takes Care of the Sparrows' and 'You Can Tell God Your Worries'. For younger kids, this is enough. Don't over-diagnose a 4-year-old — most preschool worry is developmentally normal and short-lived.
Wemberly Worried + Little Sprouts. Small kids need the feeling named, not dissected.
Firm Roots daily + What to Do When You Worry Too Much as a Saturday project. The workbook needs a parent alongside.
Firm Roots + Huebner + a real conversation about seeing a counselor if the worry is stealing sleep. Books alone are not enough for chronic anxiety.
Amazon US: largest catalog, Prime ships in 1-2 days. Every book in this post links there.
ChristianBook.com: curated selection, sometimes cheaper on the God's Little Sprout series if you catch a sale.
Barnes & Noble: good if you want to browse physical copies before buying.
Kindle Unlimited: God's Little Sprout titles rotate in and out. Free 30-day trial covers it plus 3 million other titles.
God's Little Sprout: Firm Roots by God's Little Sprout Editorial Team — five worry devos in NIrV including Philippians 4:6-7. $16.99 on Amazon. Pair with What to Do When You Worry Too Much for CBT tools.
No — the Bible doesn't call worry sin, it calls it something to be released to God. Books that shame worry make it worse. Firm Roots frames worry as 'a load God wants to carry with you', not moral failure.
If it's stealing sleep, causing physical symptoms (stomach aches, headaches), or preventing normal activities for more than 3-4 weeks — talk to your pediatrician. Books are not a substitute for a therapist for clinical anxiety.
Matthew 6:34 ('Don't worry about tomorrow') and Philippians 4:6-7 ('Cast your cares'). Both appear in Firm Roots in NIrV translation.
God's Little Sprout titles rotate in and out of KU. Huebner's workbook needs to be paperback — you can't fill it in on Kindle.
NIrV, ICB, or NLT. Philippians 4:6-7 in NIrV is warm. In ESV it sounds like a courtroom. Big difference for a scared kid.
God's Little Sprout: Firm Roots includes 5 devos on worry, Philippians 4, and God's care — NIrV for ages 7-10.
