What's the best Christian prayer for a 3-year-old?
For ages 2-4, keep it under 4 lines and use the same words every night. Our recommended anchor: "God, thank you for today. Please keep [name] safe tonight. I love you Jesus. Amen." Repetition is the whole point — the child memorizes the rhythm in about a week and starts saying it back.
How do I pray with a child who is afraid of something specific?
Match the prayer to the fear. Fear of the dark: name God's presence in both light and dark. Fear of a thunderstorm: reference Jesus calming the storm (Mark 4:39). Fear of a medical procedure: name Jesus holding the child's hand plus God guiding the doctors. Never pray for the fear to disappear — pray for God's presence inside it.
Should I make my child pray, or wait until they want to?
Model prayer daily, out loud, in front of them from birth. Do not require participation. Kids join when they're ready — usually between ages 2.5 and 4. Forced prayer teaches performance, not faith. Modeled prayer teaches practice.
